Connecting the Dots: Towards a Transportation Referendum…

DVA Workshop Group 7On November 13, 2014, the DVA held the final in a series of seven Metrocore Quilting workshops (or roundtables) looking at the connection between transportation and some of the key components of successful city-making. The goal is to generate a “quilt” of insights leading to inform the development of a DVA advocacy strategy for the Metro Vancouver Transit Referendum, expected to be held in the spring of 2015.

…a transportation perspective

The November 13th event brought together participants involved in various aspects of transportation to explore the shared understanding between residents, businesses, and community organizations that can help us take effective action in improving transportation in Vancouver’s Metrocore.

Key Takeaways: Transportation

DVA Sketch - Transportation

  • Culture change + complete network connectivity => efficient (and JOYFUL) movement of people and things:
    • what catalysts are needed?
    • politics, attitudes and safety;
    • complete networks;
    • Congestion harms the economy;
    • Pollution and climate.
  • Let’s normalize ALL transportation modes by making them seem and be safe, accessible and conceivable for every person:
    • Respect for all travel modes.
  • Seamless, complete multimodal to private vehicle ownership unnecessary for most:
    • Finer grained transportation services in lower density neighbourhoods;
    • Lets replace car parks with bike and people parks.
